Re: Roaring Camp Gold Mine in Pine Grove California

I just read your post about Roaring Camp and to be frank I am surprised that someone who traveled so far didn't do more research about a place, that in the first paragraph of Roaring Camp's informational letter that you receive after booking your visit, states that you "convoy into the camp with a guide and will be convoyed out at the 'end' of your stay".

My husband and I made our first trip to RC last May and went back again in September. We made several phone calls ahead of time just to ask questions about the facilities and what we needed to bring with us. As for the prices in the Trading Post, yes, I agree they are pricey, however that is something we have become accustomed to anyplace we visit while on vacation. You also must take into consideration that all the supplies have to be trucked down that very steep dirt road. Which brings me to another point. You are convoyed in and out by a guide for your own protection.

As for the gold piles, I may be wrong, but I don't believe you're promised you will find your fortune. That's why they call it prospecting. It's a crap shoot everytime you go out there looking for the yellow stuff.

Perhaps the next time you book a trip you might want to do a little bit of fact finding and make some phone calls with your questions as we did.

We are heading back in July for another two weeks and we can hardly wait! Roaring Camp is the ONLY place we have every vacationed where we felt secure and didn't have to worry about 'undesirables' wondering into camp to rip you off. Wish there were more places like Roaring Camp. The world would be a much better place if there were.
