As gemhunter has said, they are found that way. The chips can be repaired by grinding, sanding and polishing again, but as specimens they are really fine the way they are. A tumbler would cause you to lose all of the edges on the crystals, so I would not recommend that. You would need a machine like a Genie, to do what you are desiring. Check out rock clubs in your area. Someone would be glad to help you.
Also, do a search on "lapidary". You will find many sites that will explain the different aspects of our hobby. Hope this helps. TW
