Re: Midwest collecting trip

Dave, There are many good collecting places in the Missouri, Arkansas, and Oklahoma area. Unfortunately it has been many years since I collected there and things change. Washington county Missouri has many locations for manykinds of minerals and lapidary materials. Arkansas has much more than quartz crystals. It has both minerals and fossils. Oklahoma I don't know nearly as much about, but I do have good speimens of barite roses, selenite crystals, and some nice fossil specimens from there. The area aron Pitcher was an extremely busy place for lead and zinc mining for many years. I don't know what there is in the way of old waste piles and I know that it was considered one of the top hazardous waste areas in the USA, because of the traces of lead (galena) in the waste piles.I suggest that you contct St. Louis area clubs for Missouri info, Oklahoma clubs for Oklahoma, and Arkansas clubs for Arkansas. Good luck, Lloyd
