First, welcome to this site. I hope we can help you.

I would bet that the material shown in the first photo is man-made. I can't think of any rock or mineral that is even close. But just in case, what is the material like on the bottom?

The second one is legitimately a rock. I am not sure what kind, but greenish color on the near side, the "eggs" (probably amygdules), and the reddish brown interior (probably from oxidation) kind of indicate a volcanic, maybe basalt. The seeming layers are a bit of a problem.

Over on the website of the Mineralogical Society of America (minsocam.org) there is in the Collector's Corner a Rock Key that is designed mostly for kids. You and your cub scout might like to take a look at it.
