I'm not sure where Dennison is, but there are lots of good rock clubs in Texas. You best bet for a mentor is to join a club and ask for lessons. Mentoring lapidary is a hands on thing, not a computer class thing. There are lots of good clubs listed here in Bob's clubs section, so see which is closest to you and join... A good club will have equipment and a shop and everything you need.
You don't say how old your grandson is, but most clubs have an age minimum for insurance purposes.. for example, the Waco gem and mineral club has a full shop, you have to be trained before you may use the equipment, and kids must be at least 12.
