Re: MAGMA type club in New England

why even bother collecting in new england. ive lived here my whole life and for the past 10 years havent found a thing. just give up rockhounding is dead. i saw the displays in tuson and it just proved that mineral collecting is only for the wealthy. no common man can afford good specimins and u certenly cant find them anymore without getting threatened or arrested so give up. magma will die out in a few years time once landowners start selling there property. when i was a teenager i used to collect in the white mtns in nh all the time and remember pulling out several quartz crystals around 6 inches long. i even had one on matrix thats 5 inches long. i got all the crystals faceted because their worth more as stones so screw it if they look nice as specimins. but u cant collect up there anymore becuse the forest service will come and get you and fine you if you so much as take a rock from outside the collecting boundaries. mineral collecting is a dead hobby so those who think they can still go to mines and find good specemens are just fools.
