Smelly Purple Flourite

Of all the information I have read about purple flourite, not one has answered the biggest question I have. I have a rather large piece of flourite, and discovered one day, when you scratch the surface with something metallic (scissors, screwdriver, knives, etc.), it emits a very foul smell that I can only describe to you as a diesel fuel type smell. The more purple the spot is, the stronger the smell. And it disipates pretty quick. If you could be any help in answering this question for my rockhound friends and I, we would be very appreciative. Thank you so much!!!!! Cindy Wahl, E. 4017 Montgomery, Spokane, WA 99217
