hey John, I have some very old and weathered equipment. I seem to be going through motors like crazy. I have replaced some very old motors with newer ones and with a flat lap you need one that can be attached to the output shaft end. I think it's called a "C" mount motor. I dont think junping to a 1/2 hp motor will kill the lap as long as the RPM's are the same. Last time I saw a 15" lap with one tray it was over $5oo and I can scrounge a motor from a washing machine for free.99. Just try to add a groung to older motors that come with only 2 wires on them and make sure the plugs are in good shape. Working with liquids and electricity can be a dangerous thing. Think about adding a GFI. {ground fault interupter} Try a heating contractor and see if he has an old blower motor you can have. Mike
