Re: Blue Lindy Star

Hi Loti,

If it is a "Lindy Star Sapphire", it is an artificial star sapphire. They were manufactured by the Lindy Division of Union Carbide. Lindy is a trademark dating from the late 1940s and a Lindy star sapphire will have an L marked on the bottom of it. Union Carbide quit production of Lindy star sapphires in the 1970s and artificial star sapphires are now manufactured overseas.

The "star" in a Lindy is very prominent and "genuine" artificial Lindy brand star sapphires have become collectible. So if you have a Lindy, while it does not even begin to approach the monetary value of a good quality, natural star sapphire, it still has some value in jewelry collector circles.
