Re: Re: Oregon Rock ID help From Cristmas Valley

I meant obsidian, sorry
I am finding this about 12' to 18' under the Oregon high desert sands on my property. I first noticed it around an animal burrow and I started digging around. The leave shaped piece is about 5' the long narrow one is about 4' long. I have found other pieces as thick as an 1" and as large as 8".

The picture of the fracture shows a piece that is about 2 1/2" wide by about 1/2" thick

It is a sand strata both on top and bottom of the pieces. Some of the pieces are bright white almost as it was shell but round. Some of the other small pieces look like chopped nuts.

It is brittle and will break as you dig or rattling about in the back of a truck.

I have looked at them with a magnifying glass and the rock all appears to be the same, except for the material in it.

I'm a total amature about rocks. How would I go about getting a chemical analysis

Al
