John, if you collected it in a volcanic environment like you say, then I HIGhLY doubt that it is Carnotite. My guess is that it is probably Sulfur. Does it melt in a candle flame? If so, then it most definately is sulfur. On another note, Steve is completely incorrect on Carnotite and fluorescence. Carnotite does not show ANY fluorescence, and is famous because it is one of the few U minerals that doesn't.
