Re: Novice day trips from Phoenix

Tom; As gets repeated so often join a local club. Use link from this site to find one. Also several good books out there. I'll share one site that is easy to get to and you are 100% guaranteed of finding white chalcedony nodules that flouresce green under short wave uv lights also there are quartz crystals in some of the pieces and fire agate sometimes. Take I 10 west to exit 94 (Tonapah exit) go south for a couple miles till you hit a T intersection take a right go a few miles until you are at the closest point to the mountain on your left. This is saddle mountain. You can take any of the roads up toward the peak or just park and start walking you will cross a wash with a little parking area beside it this is a good place to start. go either direction from there. Toward the mountain or cross the road and go away from it back toward I 10. You will start to find the chalcedony laying on the ground anywhere you walk. Some are nice rosettes. Good Luck Dave Owen
