How to downsize a rock too big for my saw?

I have a 10" Raytech saw and a 9 lb. rock I'd like to cut (garnet in gneiss and lots of awesome mica flecks). The rock will be too big for the saw, so what's a slick way to downsize it into some smaller manageable chunks that could still be slabbed in the saw? I'd prefer not to do the destructo method of just smacking away at it with a hammer and wind up with a pile of tumbling stock.

Any ideas? CaroL
