John, the carnotite is not particularly dangerous unless it is either inhaled or ingested. The problem comes when particles of it lodge in tissue and the alpha particles from radioactive decay of the uranium bombard cells in the tissue.

As to what to do with "several hundred pounds", I don't know. That is more than I would want to have around. As to stabilizing it, is the carnotite dusting off the wood, or not? If the former, I would get rid of it while wearing a very good half face mask with canister filters.

I am generally accepting of having radioactive minerals in my collection, but you have much more than a normal amount.
