Petrified Wood Quandry?

I am from lower Alabama, and have a peice of petrified wood that I found half buried under a cedar tree when I bought my home eight years ago. It is about 14" long, 5' thick. It has never been cut so there is no way to know what type pattern there is inside of the wood.

I see on various forums that it could be worth between $10 to $thousands of dollars.
Here's my question?

Where are the people that buy this stuff?. I have never seen a single ad anywhere for anyone buying! Are the only ones giving the values the ones that are selling?
Would appreciate any advice on nearby hobbyists, collectors, etc.

My email is smcauley@centurytel.net

Thanks
