Thanks, Don, for the information. I have probably several hundred pounds of black petrified wood, complete limbs fractured into sections of up to a foot in length and 4 to 6 inches in diameter. I discovered the find inside a hollow volcanic cone back in the early 1970's. All of it is covered in carnotite. All has been stored inside a barn. Any suggestions as to what I can do with it? Hummmmmm. Maybe I'd better rephrase that. Any idea how, if even possible, the coating can be safely nutralized? Or is it best to just leave them as they are and display as unique specimens?
