Re: Removing Chlorastrolite (Greenstone) from Matrix

Hello Rick, I have used a dremel to slowly work the stones from the matrix. Care is definitely needed. It is very easy to ruin a nice piece. Once removed they are slippery little buggers to work with while polishing. I have yet to tumble them and I would advise not to use to course of grit. I'm thinking that fine grit would be the starting point, and if you do tumble them keep a very close eye. Caution is needed so as not to work past the beautiful patterns these stones posess. Keep in mind not all the stones are of the gem caliber, they either have it or they don't. You might try contacting "Da Yooper". Ken may have some insight that will be very helpful to you. Just google Da Yooper and his site is there. Take care and happy hounding.
