I've heard that the fire agate sites are pretty picked over but have never been there. Rockhound state park I spent a little time there the place is about the same but there is one gulch directly above the parking area where you can find nodules of jasper if your willing to dig the clay beds for it. However you are limited to 5 or 6 pounds a day.I didn't have the right tools and never found much. I think there are better choices in the area one that comes to mind is flourite ridge north of Deming I might suggest joining the yahoo group New Mexico rocks I'm sure people there have some ideas.
