dear Virginia,

Just get some wet-dry sand paper, and a flat surface, put a little water on the sand paper and rub the amethyst back and forth. Use 320, 400, 600, grit and up. You can get a fair polish at 600 grit. A trick is to use the back of the 600 grit paper for a slightly higher polish.
