My experience with drilling the hard stuff has brought me to using a loaf pan (for baking miniature bread loafs) and filling it with water, then submerging my portable vice in it with stone secured. Even with this the process of drilling is still a very slow one. I have a Foredom motor with flex shaft attached to a Foredom drill press. I will attest to the fact that hot is hot, it seems even submerged in water you can still attack the material too quickly and burn up a bit in no time. Patience is a virtue.
