Try using "Iron-out". it comes in a powder form and is easy to use to remove Oxide stains and coatings. Also it is an acid so follow directions and precautions. I put my quartz into it at room temperature and leave it overnight which seeems to work good on the iron oxide coatings we have on Herkimer diamonds. Some peope from Arkansasa put them in cold then heat to a boil and allow to slowly cool for the stubborn stuff they have down there but make sure the place u dothis is outside or VERY well ventilated
