Steve -

Your efforts to start a group that returns rockhounding to its original roots are sure to add some great adventures to your life, and the lives of many other people that might otherwise never get the chance to collect.

When you keep a club open to everyone who wants to dig with you, you help the hobby grow.

I have seen postings in the past where an established club says at the end of their fieldtrip announcement that only members with insurance coverage can attend. This requirement is posted even on fieldtrips to national forest land where digging is open to anyone and no insurance or release form is required for access.

I've talked to many, many new rockhounds who were discouraged by this. Some of them don't have the time in their schedules to attend the required meetings. Your club will open this fascinating activity up to many people who otherwise would be unable to join in the fun.

You'll meet all sorts of fascinating folks from all walks of life....but everyone's equal when they're covered head-to-toe in dirt and searching for those elusive crystals and minerals.

Have fun....and make sure to let us all know how things progress!
