Re: petrified log

Petrified Wood is very common in East Texas, I've live in East TX. all my life and have seen huge specimens. Our local club in Jasper Tx. just had a field trip to a creek that was covered in Pet. Wood of all sizes and colors. Everyone had a ball and got all the Wood they could carry out. Full rounds(logs) are not as common as the smaller pieces but they are also fairly common in East Tx.

The best collection I've seen to date is located at Johnson's Rock Shop in Indian Springs Tx. east of Livinston Tx. They have a huge collection and have many slabs cut an polished so you can see the inside of the speciman in detail. Their little shop is out of the way and kinda hard to find but well worth the trip just to see what a life time of collecting and lapidary work looks like. They have slab saws, tumblers, polishers and just about anything else you can think of related to Petrified Wood and lapidary. I am not in anyway associated with them or their shop, its just a really neat little place to learn and pick up things if you like. They are very friendly and knowledgeable.

Good luck with your log, there is alot you can do with it or just have it to look at as a yard ornament.
