Re: Plans for a sphere machine

Hi Tim,

Some years back I did a preliminary review and photographic walk-around of a Joe Adams sphere maker for members of the newly founded Sphere Makers and Collectors List on Yahoo Groups. The particular machine that I reviewed was a three cup marble maker - a miniature version of Joe's larger capacity machines that I appreciated for its "cuteness" and affordability.

All of Joe's machines were designed and constructed using a similar approach - basically the motors and parts just got scaled up in size and capacity to build the bigger ones. I especially appreciated Joe's machines as an example approach for the do-it-yourself sphere machine builder. Quite a few machines have been home built using this general approach:

Unfortunately Joe passed on to that big lapidary shop in the sky shortly after I wrote the review and his machines are no longer produced.

You might also try the Sphere Makers and Collectors List on Yahoo Groups for further help with plans, ideas and approaches to building sphere making machines:

I've often considered building a sphere making machine of my own as it looks like fun and I think spheres are a great way to display and show off materials. Good luck with yours and keep on rock'n!
