Re: beginner trip

Dee Dee,
John again. refering to beginners, There are many ways to get into big trouble in the summer out west, Please take plenty of drinking water to each site and beware of crawly critters under rocks stay off big rock piles, snakes go in them to stay cool. Beware of vague directions in guide books. And keep in mind many guide books refer to minerals found years ago and are unlikely to be found now. Use the local rock shops to see what the local material looks like. You can tell the local shops because they will be old, loaded with old bins and boxes, and usually disorganized. Be friendly to the owners of the shops and at a minimum purchase something. If the owners are rock hounds they will be helpful. If your in a very fancy pricey shop with several clerks they may only be dealers and not too helpful. (Sorry but I'm not trying to offend dealers, just going by experience)
