Re: Flat Lap Slurry mix - Water to Grit Ratio?

I also have the same lap and got it used as well. I tried several times to get it right and finaly asked this group for help. I have 3 pans so keep one for 1st and 2nd stages amd the other two for pre and polish stages. I fould that the water dries up very fast and I could not take my eyes off the machine or it would dry up. I was insructed to put a cover over it. I went to a dollar store and found a large plastic bowl and fationed it to fit inside the pan and it sits on the plastic ring.i have a bungie strap hold it down and it keeps the slurry wet for a long time. As for a ratio I found an even layer of 60-90 grit in the pan and enough water to wet it is good. I keep using the same pan and add one slab at a time to keep them from chipping each other then clean it and go to the second stage. Like tumbling one speck carried over will scratch your rocks and keep you from going on. There are all kinds of other tips to help along the way and speed up your hobbie so once you get it going ask again for help/ Mike
