Great Salt Plain Selenite

The August 2007 issue of Rock & Gem features a field trip for selenite located
in Oklahoma's Great Salt Plains Refuge on page 28. This area is now closed to collecting indefinitely. The first collecting day in April a vial of unknown substance was dicovered by a Boy Scout. Subsequently many more have been located. This is being investigated. Theories range from an error in locating the new collecting area over a University ground water experimental plot, to an accidental drop of nerve gas by the Air Force. Hopefully, the glass isn't too frangible, the mysterious substance is benign, and the collecting can resume soon.
