Hi Carson

Our club has a portable rock trimmer that I use to break specimens into tiny bits for micromounts. I also have a couple chisels and an old pair of wire cutters and needlenose pliers I use. The trimmer is by far the easist. I set the trimmer in an open-topped box to catch all the crumbs which I then inspect under the scope for micromount use.

When I first began I used an old blue shop towel to grasp a specimen with and ended up grinding the soft towel into the matrix so when I looked at it under the scope it had blue towel fibers stuck to it - they are really distracting. So no towels or even cotton batting to cusion specimens used for micromounts. Its near impossible to loosen all the fibers.
