Hello Bob,

I agree with Doug. I would suggest seating your specimen in a box of sand, turned to give you a good angle on your proposed cleaving (probably with the cleavage edge vertical). It is important to get your chisel's back as close exactly as possible to the natural cleavage plane of the fluorite. The plane will be parallel to one that shows as an incipient cleavage. You should rap the chisel smartly, but not heavily. Good luck!
