I don't know the specifics, but perhaps I can head you in a direction. There are a number of petrified palmwood sites in Texas and Arkansas, as well as in Mississippi. In fact in Miss., there is a state park which was established as a result of the Oligocene "petrified forest". Perhaps search the TX, AR and MS geological survey websites. They may provide you with some leads.
