It is easy to cut. Be sure when you cut to centerpoint, that it is centered on dop. 1-12cts. Editor's Note: I asked Jeff to design a heart that would be easy to cut (as hearts go) for Valentine's Day and the Shop's February cut of the month. I told him I wanted something that would be appealing as a project for a faceter with less than expert skills. Jeff has come through with a real classy cut meeting that criteria. So far, I've seen SweetHearts cut in amethyst, garnet and tourmaline, and it is excellent in all three materials. I've moved up SweetHeart as the January cut, so you won't have "not enough time" as an excuse for not cutting one of these for your honey for Valentine's day. ;)

Shown above left is a 9.3 mm SweetHeart cut from rose Malaya garnet. It weighs 3.64 carats. At center is a 16mm, 7.9 ct SweetHeart cut from some lilac colored Brazilian amethyst. Above right is an 11.8 mm SweetHeart cut from some top Nigerian pink tourmaline. It weighs 5.76 carats. This design exhibits striking dispersion with the amethyst as well as tourmaline. All stones cut by Jeff Graham. SweetHeart Cutting Remarks Here is a SweetHeart of a heart with excellent optical performance that's not hard to cut. This is a very suitable design for a novice wanting to cut his or her first heart as well as pro cutters. Since designing SweetHeart I've cut and sold over a dozen of them to local jewelers and wholesale clients who are incorporating them in Valentine's Day gifts, which warms my heart as well because it is a fast design to cut.
Exercise some care in lining up the centerpoint of the pavilion with the axis of the dop. This design is so close to 1:1 in L/W that there is nothing unusual as far as dopping. The bottom all cuts to centerpoint, and establishes the girdle line. It is really a nice heart shape and reads well from a distance with lots of flash and dispersion. Because of the way I designed the pavilion, it can be cut in tourmaline, topaz, peridot, garnet, spinel, and sapphire with no changes.
Enjoy cutting your SweetHeart! Drop me an email to let me know your results and what you've cut, or feel free to inquire if you have any questions or need some help regarding this design - Jeff.
